Landslide destroys home near Three Tree Point
911, Weather

A 94-year-old man is homeless after a landslide crashed into his home near Three Tree Point on Sunday morning.

The man was home with one of his daughters when the slide hit the home on the 2300 block of SW 172nd Street. They were able to escape, but the impact of the slide forced the house several feet off of its foundation and nearly into Puget Sound. It also splintered all of the interior supports of the home.

Brygida McDermott, another of the man’s daughters, said that engineers at the scene said that not only was the home unlivable, but that residents in homes next to the affected house may also have to leave.

Members of the man’s family take turns taking care of him. The man is an artist and a writer, and they are also worried that his life’s work, a book depicting the highlights of his life, has been destroyed.
