Routine Examinations with Specialized Preventive Care Options
Did you know that routine examinations every 6 to 12 months can be the single best thing you do to allow your pet to live a long and healthy life? It's true! Complete physical exams allow us to catch abnormalities early and correct them prior to becoming long-term problems. We will take the time to get to know you and your pets so we can tailor vaccines and preventive care best for their situation. We will discuss vaccinations, internal parasite control, flea and external parasite prevention, and heartworm management.
Nutrition & Weight Management
At CAMC we want to make sure your pets have proper nutrition and maintain a healthy weight. Excess fat, like with humans, can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and other diseases. We can answer all your questions about what foods would be best for your companion. In addition, if your pet requires a specialized food for organ disease, skin allergies, or dietary restriction, we carry a full line of prescription pet foods too!
Anesthesia & Surgery
We understand that the thought of your beloved four-legged child in surgery may be scary, but we are here to make your experience as easy and pain-free for both you and your pet. Great surgery starts with excellent anesthesia! All of our patients undergo pre-operative blood testing to ensure healthy anesthetic medications and doses are used. In addition, all patients have pain medication on board prior to induction of anesthesia or any surgical procedure. Intravenous catheters are also utilized to provide fluid support during surgery, as well as an emergency injection port should it ever be needed. Your patient will be closely monitored by a technician trained in anesthesia during the entire procedure as well as during his/her recovery. Similar to human medicine, heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, temperature, and oxygenation are recorded through advanced monitoring systems to ensure your companion remains stable and safe.
We provide all levels of soft tissue surgery including spays, neuters, skin mass removals, cesarean sections, abdominal surgery, organ biopsy, and others. Please discuss any of these, or other, procedures with the Doctor prior to scheduling. For advanced care, or when orthopedic (bone/joint) surgery is warranted, we may recommend a board-certified veterinary surgeon.
Dental Prophylaxis & Oral Surgery
Pets need dental care too! When was the last time you "flipped the lip" of your pet and checked out those not-so pearly whites? Tartar and bacteria in the mouth not only cause bad breath, but can increase the patient's risk of heart and organ disease and other illnesses. Bring them in and let us
help you determine the best treatment for long-term oral health. Brushing your pet's teeth is ideal, but dental chews, water additives, and special foods can also help keep your pet's breath fresh and overall health optimal. Don't wait until your friend can't eat or has rotten teeth to get them cleaned! Most pets will require a professional cleaning and scaling under anesthesia every 1 to 2 years. If done routinely, this procedure is fast and less expensive then the severe cases where teeth need to be removed. Digital dental radiography allows our staff to look below the gum line to determine if bone loss or abscesses have formed requiring dental extractions. Many teeth may look horrible from the outside, but once cleaned and xrays taken, it may be determined that the tooth can remain and heal -- ultimately the best situation.
In House Diagnostic Testing
We have the distinct advantage of having a full laboratory in our clinic allowing for rapid turn-over of many routine tests -- most within your allotted appointment time! Tests includes: complete blood counts (CBC), enzyme chemistries, electrolyte levels, urinalysis, fungal cultures, cytology, thyroid levels, feline viral status, heartworm, intestinal parasites, parvovirus, and others. More specialized testing may still require the traditional outside lab services of our partner IDEXX.
In addition, we also have a completely digital xray system which allows for faster views, fewer exposures, no chemicals, and portable results. This is good for us, good for our patients, and of course good for the environment!
As these files are digital, they can be easily transfered to a CD for owners, emergency referrals, or sent via email to a Veterinary Radiologist for consultation.
Rehabilitation and Exercise Therapy
CAMC is proud to announce our new Theraputic Healing Laser. This machine uses a controlled laser source to provide heat to injured and inflammed tissues to speed healing and relive pain. Candidates for treatment include pets with arthritis, nonhealing wounds or infections, post surgery, chronic hotspots, back injuries, and many more. LiteCure, who produces the Companion Therapy Laser, has sold similar units to the US Olympic Equestrian Team and many professional sports organizations including the Seattle Mariners! Dr. Kasper has a strong interest in other areas of animal rehabilitation and therapy and plans to continue to expand her skills and knowledge in hopes of gaining certification in the field by the end of 2010.
Housing & Boarding Facilities
While staying with us, your pets become our family too! All of our guests have adequate space provided to them, comfy blankets, full access to water, and all the love and attention they can get! In addition to our intensive care unit in our treatment area for sick and recovering patients, we have separate canine and feline wards to allow for comfort.
The canine ward includes both large runs with glass doors for increased visibility and cages for our smaller guests. Dogs are walked outside at least 3-times a day to the gravel and barked areas for potty breaks. Owners can elect to allow their dogs to have play time with other dog guests that the staff feel are compatible.
Our feline guests can be especially sensitive to staying away from home. Luxury cat condos with adjustable dividers allow for both space (especially for cat siblings) and privacy. Cat-room "free time" is encouraged to escape the cages and utilize the cat tree and scratching posts for individuals or
families.
Behavioral Consultation
Our veterinary patients can be as behaviorally complicated as people, but unfortunately they can't lie down on the couch and tell us what is going on. We can help you determine possible causes of behavioral changes or concerns by ruling out any medical reasons then pursuing behavioral
modification exercises. Please contact our hospital to set up a consultation.
Geriatric & Hospice Care
It is unfortunate that our pets do not live as long as we wish they did. Our staff strives to ensure that those final years are as good as the earlier ones. Whether your friend has been diagnosed with cancer, terminal organ failure, or is simply getting old, we will be there for you and for them to ensure they remain comfortable, happy, and well cared for. We will present you with all medical options and answer your questions so that you can make the best decisions for you, your friend, and your family.
When it is time to say goodbye, we provide both in-clinic and at-home euthanasia services, as well as cremation and urn options.
